AAVPA Home Visual Art

The visual art offerings at Firestone High School are designed to give students the opportunity to explore a variety of two and three-dimensional media and techniques at several levels. Students are encouraged to develop their individual direction, participate in exhibitions and attend workshops with visiting artists. Student portfolios consistently earn awards and scholarships with many graduates continuing toward a career in visual art.

Art Honors Society

Art Honors Society

The National Art Honor Society is a program started by the National Art Education Association, for the purpose of inspiring leadership roles for visual arts and recognizing those high school students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. NAHS strives to aid members in bringing art education to the attention of their school and community.

Firestone High School's National Art Honor Society chapter started in 2003 and has grown in membership each year. Our students have created mural within our school and in several areas in the community. We have contributed to the Lock Three Banner program during the holidays programs, created artwork with student council for out Winter Formal, Created Lanterns for the Don Drum Festival of Lights and contributed artwork to Children's Hospital.

Our program is a very rewarding experience for members, our school and community.

FHS Art students have taken their art experiences into many areas of study and here are a few of the recent examples: Industrial Design and Graphic Design at The Cleveland Institute of Art, Fashion Design at Kent State University, and Virginia Marty College of Design, Mechanical Engineering and Robotic Design at Akron University, Culinary Arts at Akron University,  and Studio Arts at Chicago Institute of Art.

Introductory level courses of Drawing and Design, Two-Dimensional Fundamentals and Three-Dimensional Fundamentals provide the technical foundations and skill development that young student artists will use in all of their artistic efforts.  Mid-level courses of Photography, Sculpture, Ceramics and Painting provide an exploration of artistic media allowing students to develop increased specialized skills.  Advanced level courses include Portfolio and AP Studio which challenge the individual to apply skills, creativity, and imagination in developing a portfolio of high quality individualized artwork.

The history of art and cultural connections are emphasized throughout our curriculum with AP Art History offered for Juniors and Seniors.
